Project ManagementMhairi Friel is an Orthotist and the founder of Stride Orthotics.  Since graduating from the University of Strathclyde with an honours degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics she has gained excellent experience in all aspects of Orthotics. In particular Mhairi focuses on the design of Lower Leg Supports (Splints) to treat Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke and other Neuromuscular and Musculoskeletal conditions in addition to designing specialist wide fitting supportive footwear.

Mhairi specialises in Lower Limb Biomechanics, this is the understanding of why you may suffer pain in the lower back, hip, groin, leg, knee, ankle or foot. She is well regarded as an expert in treating sport injuries and has vast experience treating elite athletes in a variety of sporting disciplines. Many of Scotland’s professional athletes are regularly referred to Mhairi at the specialist gait lab in either Glasgow or Edinburgh for an in-depth and accurate analysis of their alignment and movement pattern.

Mhairi Friel is also employed as a locum Orthotist for the NHS and covers clinics around Scotland and North England.

Stride Orthotics has a new location and is now based within the well renowned Hampden Sports Clinic where we work within a team of specialist physiotherapists, doctors and orthopaedic consultants. We therefore operate at the centre of an excellent multidisciplinary team, ensuring each patient receives the best and most accurate treatment for their symptom. The Glasgow centre not only treats sport injuries, we cater for all lower back pain, hip pain, knee pain, ankle pain and foot pain in addition to providing specialist made to measure footwear and leg braces. Edinburgh Clinic: located within and working with RENEW PHYSIO
Stride Orthotics, Edinburgh are located within Renew Physio. Renew Physio provide specialist care and therapy for, back, neck and joint pain, sports injuries and orthopaedic rehabilitation. They are a team of highly qualified and skilled Chartered Physiotherapists and massage therapists.
Stride Orthotics and Renew Physio work in partnership and have created arguably one the best centres for the conservative treatment of back pain, hip pain, leg pain and foot and ankle pain in the East of Scotland. Each client is offered a FREE BIOMECHANICAL VIDEO GAIT ANALYSIS in the clinics unique gait lab. Stride Orthotics capture and analyse each client’s movement and alignment in walking, running, cycling and a variety of other sporting disciplines and determine their unique biomechanical profile. The client’s biomechanical report and a copy of their video gait analysis is passed to the therapist at Renew Physio where they will then devise a Strength and Exercise programme uniquely designed for each client. Our clinic ensures each patient receives a thorough and precise biomechanical ‘MOT’.
